Katali Studio believes a website should be as considered as a book. That includes being plain about what happens when you visit.

This page explains the small amounts of information this site stores on your device, why, and how to change your mind at any time.

What cookies are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep. Some are necessary for a site to function. Others remember preferences. Others still follow you across the web. We use none of the third kind.

Alongside cookies, this site uses localStorage, a similar browser feature. It works the same way from your perspective: a small amount of information kept on your own device, which we can read when you return.

What this site stores

Your appearance preference. When you choose light or dark mode, we keep that choice in localStorage so the site looks the way you left it. It never leaves your device and tells us nothing about you.

Your cookie choice. When you accept or decline analytics, we record that decision in localStorage so we do not ask again on every page. This is also purely local.

Google Analytics. Only if you accept. Google Analytics helps us understand how many people visit, which pages hold their attention, and how they found us. It sets two cookies:

These do not carry your name, your email address, or anything you have typed. They contain a randomly generated number. We have configured Google Analytics to discard the underlying data after 14 months, and we have not enabled advertising or cross-site features.

If you decline, Google Analytics does not load. No request is made, and no cookie is set.

One thing we cannot ask you about first

The typefaces on this site, Playfair and Inter, are served by Google Fonts. They load before you have had a chance to make any choice, because text has to render for the page to be readable.

Google Fonts does not set a cookie. It does receive your IP address, as any server does when your browser requests a file from it. Google states it does not use this to build advertising profiles. We mention it because it is true and we would rather you heard it from us.

Changing your mind

Select Cookie preferences in the footer of any page. Your choice takes effect immediately. Declining after having accepted stops further collection; to remove cookies already set, clear them in your browser.

Every browser also lets you block or delete cookies for any site. Doing so here costs you nothing but your appearance preference.

Changes to this policy

If we add anything that stores information on your device, we will update this page and ask again before it runs. We will not quietly expand what we collect.
